Guwahati, August 13: In an unprecedented incident, one kg of tea from Dikom Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district was sold for a record Rs 75,000 at the Guwahati Auction Centre on Tuesday. The record purchase was made by M/s Assam Tea Traders. The traders are one of the oldest tea dealers operating their shops in Guwahati. The record price for the tea yet again proves the supremacy and clamour for tea grown in Assam. "Today our team is very happy. Dikom Tea Estate has made world record of tea selling at Rs. 75,000/kg. We put a lot of efforts. We're making quality tea for last 20 yrs. This is the recognition for whatever work we have done," said Samar Joyti Chaliha, Manager, Dikom Tea Estate.

The earlier record for the most expensive tea sold was on July 31 set by Orthodox Golden tea tips from Maijan tea estate, which was sold for Rs 70,501 per kg on July 31, reported the Sentinel. Maijan Tea estate is from Dibrugarh district in Assam.
The news comes as a welcome relief for the Tea industry in India, which is facing a crisis of sorts and the Indian tea Association appealing to the government to take measures to reverse the downslide.
