Godavari River in Nashik Flows Above Danger Mark Due to Heavy Rains, Watch Video

Due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, the Godavari river in Nashik has flown above the danger mark. On Monday, the Maharashtra Irrigation department released 1,000 cubic foot per second (cusec) water from Gangapur Dam into the Godavari river due to the heavy rainfall.

Mumbai, July 30: Following heavy rainfall in the region, Godavari river in Nashik has flown above the danger mark. On Monday, the Maharashtra Irrigation department released 1,000 cubic foot per second (cusec) water from Gangapur Dam into the Godavari river due to the heavy rainfall in the state over the last five days. Before the release of the water, people residing in colonies along the banks of the dam were alerted. Water was also released from Darna Dam into the Darna river in Igatpuri tehsil as the area received 226 millimetres of rain in the past 24 hours.

With torrential rains lashing the city this month, Mumbai has recorded the highest July rain in five years, reports said. The heavy rainfall triggered flood-like situations in several parts of the city, leading to waterlogging and massive traffic congestion. Mumbai has received 1,268.4 mm received this month till now, which is just short of the 1,468.5 mm rainfall it got in the July 2014 deluge.
