Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat presented the ‘President’s Colours’ Nishan to 29 Punjab and 30 Punjab Batallions of the Indian Army during Colour Presentation Parade on Wednesday.The ceremony was held at the PUNJAB Regimental Centre in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh.

Ramgarh, September 25: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Bipin Rawat presented the ‘President’s Colours’ Nishan to 29 Punjab and 30 Punjab Batallions of the Indian Army during Colour Presentation Parade on Wednesday. The ceremony was held at the Punjab Regimental Centre in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh. Other senior Army officials were also presented at the ceremony. The Punjab Regiment is one of the oldest regiments still in service in the Indian Army. It has been conferred with 70 Battle Honours, 01 Ashoka Chakra, 19 Mahavir Chakra, 20 Kirti Chakra, 64 Vir Chakra, 83 Shaurya Chakra and 11 Victoria Cross (pre-1947). Brigadier (Retd) Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, Hero of 1971 Longewala Battle Dies at 78.

While interacting with the media after the event, Gen Rawat reaffirmed his earlier statement made on September 23 that people were moving around freely in the Kashmir valley. He further added that those claiming that there was a shutdown were the ones whose survival depended on terrorism.

The COAS stated, “Normal life in Jammu and Kashmir has not been affected. People are doing their necessary work, a clear sign that work has not been stopped, and people are freely moving around. The communication restrictions were imposed in Kashmir Valley after the Narendra Modi government abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by diluting Article 370. The state was also divided into two union territories – Jammu & Kashmir and Leh.
