Ghaziabad Building Collapse: Seven Injured After Five-Storey Building Collapses Near Missal Gadi, One Body Recovered, Rescue Operations On

Ghaziabad, July 22: At least seven people have been rescued and are severely injured after a five-storey building collapsed near Missal Gadi in Akash Nagar area on Sunday afternoon. A woman and a child were among the injured. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has so far recovered one body from the site while the rescued ones have been sent to the nearby hospital. There is no casualty as of now.

According to a report by ANI, the building that collapsed was an under-construction building. Initial reports inform that several labourers have been feared dead. The Police, fire department and NDRF team have been pressed into service.

Ritu Maheshwari, Ghaziabad District Magistrate on building collapse informed that prima facie, there seem to be issues with the quality of the building. She said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the matter. The incident comes days after nine people lost their lives in a building collapse in Greater Noida's Shah Beri village, adjoining  Ghaziabad.

A similar building collapse incident was reported from Chennai on Saturday morning in which one person was killed while 32 others were injured. The incident took place when an overloaded scaffolding of an under-construction building collapsed in the heart of the city.  Three of those admitted have undergone surgery while twelve others injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, who visited the spot near Kanthanchavadi, told reporters that the incident took place around 7.15 pm. "Unfortunately, one person identified as Bablu died. Twenty-seven people have been rescued and are undergoing treatment as in-patients at hospitals," he said.

Earlier this week, the twin building collapse in Shahberi village, Greater Noida, on Friday claimed lives of 9 people. After 65 hours of searching for victims, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) wrapped up its rescue operations at the site in Greater Noida. No new bodies were found in the debris keeping the death toll to nine.
