Patna, July 11: In a horrific incident of sexual assault against minor in Bihar, a two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Gaya. The toddler is battling for life as her condition is reported to be critical.

The alleged rape was committed on Tuesday, police said, claiming that the accused was clearing the debris of a room which had caved in when he spotted the girl playing outside her house. He lured the girl to his home and sexually assaulted her, Vishnupad police station house officer Udai Kumar said.

On hearing the girl's cry, locals rushed to the house of accused where they got hold of him. While the girl was rushed to the nearby JNP hospital, the accused was beaten up till the police arrived on the spot. His identity has not been revealed.

Police claims the accused has been booked under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Stone-pelting was also reported at the Vishnupad police station as locals demanded the police to handover the accused to be "punished" by them. The police, however, pacified the mob promising strictest action against him.

This marks the second case of rape in Gaya district within a month. Earlier, a 45-year-old woman and her daughter were gangraped in area falling under Konch police station's jurisdiction. The miscreants had also looted Rs 2,000 from their house along with some jewellery.
