Bhopal, December 24: The Madhya Pradesh government has released a comprehensive database on bulls called 'sire directory'. This database is prepared to let people find a "perfect match" for their cows. The directory, which has details of 200 bulls, was released by Madhya Pradesh Animal Husbandry Minister Lakhan Singh Yadav on December 21. The directory can be checked online for, what some people are saying, gau swayamvar. Madhya Pradesh Budget 2019: Rs 132 Crores Allotted for Cattle Farming and Livestock, Rs 20 per Day for Cow Protection.

The 'sire directory' has details such as the animal's family history, diseases and milk production capacity of the bull's mother. It also says whether the bull was born in a farm or field. "It has been prepared by experts, covering every possible detail of a bull. It will help in improving indigenous cattle breed," Lakhan Singh Yadav was quoted by Times of India as saying. Bulls of Gir, Sahiwal, Tharparkar, Murrah, Malvi and Nimari breeds featured in the database. Kamal Nath Govt Opens Single Outlet to Sell Chicken and Cow Milk in Madhya Pradesh, BJP Says Move Will Hurt Hindu Sentiments.

The details of bulls have been mentioned in three categories. Details of breed, parentage and age are given under the 'general information'. The second head is 'performance traits', which has details about milk production capacity of bull's mother, fat percentage in the milk, test of progeny and breeding value of the bull. The third column is about the results of tests done for genetic disorders and propensity for disease.

Bulls mentioned in the 'sire directory' have been brought to the central semen station of Bhopal, which is one of the A-grade units in the country. It produces more than 28 lakh frozen semen doses of 16 breeds per year, TOI reported.

"To make the dairy enterprise more profitable, milk production potential of cows should be high, which can be achieved by use of proven pedigree bulls with higher sire indices. The sire directory will be of great help in this," MP State Livestock and Poultry Development Corporation MD HBS Bhadoria was quoted as saying.
