Dehradun, May 7: With the beginning of famous Chardham Yatra on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritra on Tuesday, Uttarakhand government opened the portals Gangotri Dham and Yamunotri Dham for the pilgrims. However, the portals for Kedarnath Dham would be opened on May 9, while for Bhu-Vaikhunth Badrinath Dham pilgrims will have to wait till May 10.
Considered as the most sought destination for attaining Mokshya (salvation), these two pilgrimage points hold prominence in the Hindu religious texts. Due to this, devotees from across the country and abroad visit the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams, despite the rough trek through the Himalayas. Along with this, other religious places include Kedarnath Dham, Bhu Vaikhunth Badrinath Dham and 10 others, where Hindu devotees throng in huge numbers with enthusiasm.
According to the Hindu mythological texts, through the Gangotri route, pilgrims can pay a visit at Uttarkashi, Lord Vishwanath, Shakti Mandir, Bhaskar Prayag, hot water kunds in Gangnani, ancient Shiv temple at Dharali,
winter halt of Gangaji in Mukhta and guard of Gangaji's temple in Bhairavghati.
