Mumbai, August 27: Keeping Ganesh Chaturthi 2019 in mind, the Maharashtra government has decided to suspend toll collection from light motor vehicles (LMVs) travelling from Mumbai to Konkan region this year. PWD minister Chandrakant Patil on Monday, August 26, announced that the state will waive toll on Mumbai-Kolhapur highway. This relief will be effective from August 30 to September 12 as people use this stretch to reach their native places during Ganeshotsav.

Meanwhile, work to fill potholes on the Konkan route is currently going on. During the festive season, around 10,000 buses and 40,000 passengers vehicles are expected to move in this route. Ganesh Chaturthi 2019: Konkan Railway to Run Special Trains.

According to reports, the Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) will also deploy special buses between the popular routes in Maharashtra to accommodate people travelling for Ganeshotsav. The special buses will ply on the routes between Mumbai-Pune and parts of Konkan region.

Ganeshotsav 2019 will be celebrated from September 2 to September 12. This festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesh. Devotees install Ganesha idols in homes and pandals. On the 10th day, they immerse the idol in a water body close by. The celebration includes new clothes, sweets and dance processions. Modak, a sweet dish, is offered to Ganesha.
