Ganesh Chaturthi 2018: No Toll for Light Motor Vehicles Going From Mumbai to Konkan on These Dates

Mumbai, Sep 6: Much to the happiness of travellers, the Maharashtra government has decided to suspend toll collection from light motor vehicles going from Mumbai to Konkan during Ganesh Festival this year. The 10-day long festival is celebrated with much fervour across states like Maharashtra, Goa among others. According to Public Works Department Minister Eknath Shinde, there will be no toll for people travelling to Konkan from September 11 to September 14.

The festival is marked with the installation of Ganesha clay idols privately in homes, or publicly on elaborate pandals (temporary stages). According to a report by Maharashtra Times, unlike last year, small four-wheelers going to Konkan have been excluded from the toll. The report informs that devotees of Lord Ganesha can also travel toll-free through Kolhapur. In August, a report by TOI stated that the state government has decided to suspend toll collection at Mumbai’s three entry point booths from August 21 till September 23, which is the last day of Ganeshotsav.

It must be noted that there are a total of five toll points in Mumbai. Toll has been suspended at the two booths between Thane and Mulund— L B S Marg and Anand Nagar on Eastern Express Highway —and one at Airoli.

In the wake of the festive season, the Maharashtra state road transport corporation (MSRTC) has decided to deploy a total of 2,295 special buses from Pune and Mumbai to accommodate people travelling for the Ganesh festival. The special buses service will start from September 8 and go on till September 13. According to a report by HT, the special buses will ply on the routes between Pune and Mumbai, and places in the Konkan belt including Sindhudurg, Sawantwadi, Chiplun, Dapoli, Rajapur, Raigad, Ratnagiri, among others.
