New Delhi, January 19: Fuel prices continued to witness a cut for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. According to the official website of Indian Oil Corporation, the price of petrol was cut by 17-19 paise and that of diesel by 16-18 paise across all major cities. After the price cut, petrol now costs Rs 80.68 a litre in Mumbai, Rs 75.09 a litre in Delhi, Rs 77.68 a litre in Kolkata and Rs 78.01 a litre in Chennai.

Meanwhile, the retail pump price of diesel was Rs 71.77 a litre in Mumbai, Rs 68.45 a litre in Delhi, Rs 70.81 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 72.33 a litre in Chennai. On Saturday, the price of petrol in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai had dropped Rs 75.26, Rs 77.85, Rs 80.85 and Rs 78.19 per liter respectively. Fuel Price Hike: Twitterati Voice Displeasure as Petrol Prices Hover Around Rs 75 Per Litre.

The petrol and diesel prices are reviewed by oil marketing companies on a daily basis. The price revisions are implemented at the fuel stations with effect from 6 am. Previously, the prices were revised every fortnight. The retail prices of fuel are dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements.
