On September 2, the price of petrol broke the May 29 record high of Rs 86.24 in Mumbai and has been on a rising spree since then. Earlier this week, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the sudden hike in the price of petrol and diesel in the country was because of the depreciation in the value of the Indian Rupee against the US dollar. Pradhan also said one of the reasons behind the rise could be the decrease in the production of oil in the countries that produce them.
