New Delhi, September 26: The Supreme Court of India will deliver some key verdicts today including the Aadhaar case, live-streaming of Supreme Court proceedings, SC/ST quota in job promotions and membership revival of lawmakers if conviction stayed. Chief Justice Dipak Misra who is going to retire on October 1 is expected to make some path-breaking judgments in the coming days before his retirement. Aadhaar Verdict to be Pronounced by Supreme Court.
Aadhaar Case:
Supreme court is likely to announce the judgement on the constitutional validity of Aadhaar. The bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra is scheduled to announce the final order on whether the biometric identity card could be made mandatory for identification. The apex court has been hearing a batch of petition since last year which challenged the mandatory usage of Aadhar, calling it a violation of the right to privacy.
Live streaming of court proceedings:
A bench Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachudhad reserved its verdict on August 24, saying that it wanted to implement the concept of "open court" to decongest the courtrooms. The supreme court is likely to announce its judgment on live streaming of court proceedings.
SC/ST quota in job promotions:
The Supreme Court is also likely to pronounce its verdict on a batch of petitions seeking that a seven-judge bench reconsiders the court’s 2006 judgement which had put conditions for granting quota benefits in job promotions for SC/ST employees.
Membership revival of lawmakers if conviction stayed:
The Apex Court is expected to pronounce its verdict on a question whether the grant of stay on the conviction of a disqualified lawmaker by an appellate court would revive his or her membership of a House.
A three-judge bench supervised by Chief Justice Dipak Misra which had reserved its order on the plea filed by NGO Lok Prahari on July 23, will pronounce the judgment.
