Varanasi, April 22: Siddharth Singh, the son of mafia don turned politician Brijesh Singh, was the targeted by cybercriminal, who attempted to swindle him of almost Rs 11 lakhs by luring him in with the promise of a dealership for a reputable paint firm. Singh's allegation led to the filing of a formal FIR on April 18 Inspector Vijay Narain Mishra of the cybercrime police station told TOI.
According to Singh's complaint, in February he called Amit Singley, claiming to be the firm's director, using the mobile number listed in an online advertisement about the opening of a dealership for a well-known paint manufacturer. Singley told Singh that he would need to put Rs 11,14,539 into the account of a bank branch in Kalina (Mumbai) in order to register for the dealership. In order to transfer the funds, Singley also gave the required codes and an account number. The provisions of the IPC that are the subject of the FIR include 417 (cheating), 420, 465 (forgery), 468, and 471 (forgery), as well as 66D of the IT Act. The matter is now being investigated by the cybercrime cell.

Singh said that on March 9, he moved the identical sum from his bank account to the account number that Singley had given him. Singley had also sent a confirmation letter confirming that the money had been received. Singley spoke with him a couple more times after that, but subsequently, it was discovered that his cell phone was turned off. After failing to get in touch with him, Singh went to the company's Mumbai headquarters, where he was told that Amit Singley was not an employee or director of the business and that no dealership advertisements had been produced.
