Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announces ex-gratia of Rs 5 Lakh each will be given to the families of those who died in the incident and compensation of Rs 50,000 each will be given to the injured, state govt will provide for their treatment.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a statement following the fatal bridge collapse incident outside the CSMT railway station in Mumbai."Pained to hear about the foot over bridge incident near TOI building in Mumbai. Spoke to BMC Commissioner and Mumbai Police officials and instructed to ensure speedy relief efforts in coordination with Railway Ministry officials," Fadnavis said.Meanwhile, the death toll has climbed to 5, whereas, 36 others are reported to be injured. At least 2 among the injured are stated toe be in critical condition.

An inquiry into the incident has been ordered by the Maharashtra government, announced State Cabinet Minister Vinod Tawde. He has assured that accountability would be fixed and the exact cause of collapse will be determined.

The death toll has climbed to 4 now, with at least 34 others reported to be injured. Mumbai South MP and Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant said a part of the FOB collapsed due to a "minor defect". The local corporation, meanwhile, has blamed the authorities for not paying attention to their repeated pleas to get portions of the FOB repaired.
Mumbai, March 14: A foot over bridge (FOB) outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (CST) Railway station in Mumbai collapsed on Thursday. The Mumbai Police has revealed that over 23 people have been injured, with the count feared to rise further. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been rushed to the spot to expedite the rescue operation. Catch live news and updates above.
Soon after the report came, emergency services were rushed traffic movement was diverted. Police have barricaded the place to ensure free-movement for rescue workers, whereas, the injured personnel are being rushed to the hospital.

Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant rushed to the site of accident, and assured an inquiry into the FOB collapse. AIMIM legislator Waris Pathan, meanwhile, blamed the government for the tragic incident. "They have been ignoring this for months. This is due to their negligence. Our repeated pleas have been ignored," he said.
