New Delhi, December 27: In the wake of severe cold wave conditions in the northern states of India, flight and train operations have been severely hit. According to a tweet by ANI, nearly 15 trains to Delhi have been running late on Thursday due to dense fog conditions. There was no respite from cold wave conditions as dense fog partially stalled flight and train operations in the national capital. According to the weather department, dense fog and cold wave condition are likely to remain in the same zone for the next three days, with dense fog engulfing the city. On Wednesday, Delhi's air quality improved slightly and was in the 'very poor' category due to improved meteorological conditions. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, eight areas recorded severe pollution, while 26 areas witnessed 'very poor' air quality. In NCR, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Greater Noida and Noida recorded 'very poor' air quality. An official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) was quoted by IANS saying that there will be dense fog on Thursday morning, with visibility dropping to 100 metres. "The fog will soon disperse and the rest of the day will have a clear sky with maximum and minimum the temperature hovering around 21 and 4 degrees Celsius, respectively", the IMD added.
On December 25, flight operations at the Delhi airport were partially suspended due to low visibility conditions as departures were put on hold and more than 80 flights were delayed. Meanwhile, cold wave conditions intensified across Kashmir as the mercury dropped further below the freezing point, resulting in frozen water bodies.
