Pune, September 10: A passenger was apprehended for allegedly smoking in the lavatory during an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Pune. The offender was identified as a 38-year-old male. The incident occurred on a flight that landed at Pune Airport shortly after 1 am on Monday, September 9.
Upon detecting smoke in the lavatory around 12:30 am, flight attendants discovered parts of a smoked cigarette in the dustbin and seized a lighter from the passenger, Indian Express reported. The crew promptly informed the ground staff and the passenger was handed over to the police upon landing. An Indigo security executive stationed at Pune International Airport filed a first information report (FIR) at Vimantal police station. The passenger, a resident of Okhla Vihar, New Delhi, has been booked under Section 25 of The Aircraft Rules, 1937, and Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to acts endangering the life or personal safety of others.
In another incident that occurred on June 26, a case was registered against a 38-year-old man after he smoked inside the lavatory of a Mumbai-bound flight from Delhi. The flight, carrying 176 passengers, took off from Delhi airport around 5.15 pm. About 50 minutes before landing at Mumbai airport, a passenger named Khalil Kajammul Khan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, went to the toilet. As per an official, the cabin crew was alerted by smoke sensors after Khan smoked a cigarette inside the toilet. When he came out, the crew members inspected the lavatory and found a matchstick and a cigarette stub. They informed their superiors about the findings.
