Pune, August 5: The release of excess water from dams into rivers due to heavy rains have created a flood-like situation in Pune. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team on Monday rescued more than 150 people, including three pregnant women, in Old Sangvi area of Pune district. According to reports, around 1,00,000 cusecs of water was released from dams in the district on August 4. Meanwhile, in the wake of the flood-like situation in the district, school and colleges will remain closed on Tuesday. Surya Hospital in Pimpri was flooded with water which led power cut and destruction of equipment. In the last 36 hours, the city received 58.8 mm of rainfall. Mumbai was also lashed by heavy rains in the last two days. However, the situation in the maximum city improved on Monday. Local Trains were on time and water-logging also receded in many areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin also informed that Nashik, Kolhapur and Satara districts could receive heavy to very heavy rains on Tuesday.
