Chennai, October 29: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday approached the Supreme Court over firework timings and sought reconsideration of its order on firecrackers restrictions. The state government urged the Court to extend the time allowed for the bursting of crackers and said it should also allow bursting of crackers from 4 am to 6 am. Earlier this month, the top Court in its order had fixed a two-hour time period from 8 PM to 10 PM for bursting firecrackers on Diwali.

The court had clarified that on festivals, including Diwali, the bursting of firecrackers will be allowed only between 8 pm and 10 pm. Meanwhile, on Christmas and New Year's Eve, the bench said, crackers can be burst between 11:45 pm and 12:45 am.

During its verdict on October 23, the Supreme Court also permitted the sale and manufacture of "green" firecrackers which have low emission across the country. A bench comprising Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan also restrained e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon from selling firecrackers which were beyond the permissible limit. It must be noted that the Supreme Court's order came on a plea seeking a ban on the manufacture and sale of firecrackers acros the country to curb air pollution.
