More than 200 people have been booked in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday by cops for busting firecrackers outside the fixed time limit set by the state government for Diwali.

Coimbatore, November 7: Following the Supreme Court's order of setting a time limit for busting crackers, more than 200 people have been booked in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday by cops for busting firecrackers outside the fixed time limit set by the state government for Diwali. A report by News Minute mentioned that 80 people were booked in TN's Villupuram district for bursting crackers, which is the highest in the state so far.

Over 150 people were booked in Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Chennai, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Villupuram and other parts of the state. The police have booked those who violated the SC's order under the sections of 291 and 188, 268 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On November 2, Tamil Nadu government had announced a fixed time for busting firecrackers between 6 am and 7 am and between 7 pm and 8 pm for the festival of lights. This comes after the Supreme Court passed an order restricting the busting of crackers to a two hours window between 8 pm and 10 pm. However, TN government urged to modify this order, as people in Tamil Nadu celebrates Diwali in the morning. Later, the top court modified its earlier decision directing state governments to choose a two hours time slot.
