Bengaluru, April 26: A fire broke out onboard INS Vikramaditya in Karnataka's Karwar on Friday. The fire erupted onboard INS Vikramaditya when the aircraft carrier was entering the harbour. A naval officer lost his life in the blaze. The deceased was identified as Lieutenant Commander DS Chauhan.

"Lieutenant Commander DS Chauhan bravely led the firefighting efforts in the affected compartment," the Navy said in a statement. Lieutenant Commander Chauhan fell unconscious due to smoke during firefighting efforts. He was rushed to the Naval Hospital at Karwar, but could not be revived, the Navy said. INS Vikrant, Indigenous-Built Aircraft Carrier, 'Will Be Delivered to Indian Navy by 2021', Says Admiral Sunil Lanba.

Navy said the fire was controlled by its crew preventing any serious damage to the warship’s combat capability. A Board of Inquiry was ordered to probe the fire incident.
