Mumbai, December 31: A major fire broke out in cloth factory in Bhiwandi of Thane in Maharashtra on Monday. Initial reports reveal that three fire tenders have reached the spot and firefighters are trying to douse the fire.
This is the third time in a week that such a fire took place in Bhiwandi. Though the reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained, fire fighters are trying to save as many lives as possible. Meanwhile, the fire brigade officials have said that short circuit in Christmas tree lights caused the fire on the 14th floor of Sargam Society near Ganesh Garden on December 27. Due to the fire, five people lost their lives while two sustained burn injuries in the fire incident. The fire brigade had classified it as "level-3" blaze, indicating it was a serious fire.
In 2018, a total of 43 deaths due to fire incidents were recorded in the Maharashtra capital in 2018. The number of fatalities is higher than what was registered in 2017. In the preceding year, 25 people had died after being caught in blaze.
