Fire at Virar Station in Mumbai Due to Short Circuit; Passengers Seen on Videos Running Out of Dahanu Local Standing at Platform

A massive fire broke out in a train at Mumbai's Virar station. As per initial reports, Dahanu locals, that had halted at Virar station had caught fire on Tuesday evening.

Mumbai, July 3: After the Andheri bridge collapse and Mira Road road ticket counter fire incidents on Tuesday, the Western Railway witnessed another mishap where an overhead cable wire caught fire at Virar station in Mumbai.  As per initial reports, the fire was reported from platform number 4 of Virar railway station on the Western line. According to reports, the blaze was caused due to a short circuit.

Reports inform that the fire has been doused and the situation is under control. No injuries or casualties have been reported. Few passengers of the Dahanu-bound local, that was at the platform deboarded the train to distance themselves from the blaze. More details are awaited.

Office-goers bore the maximum brunt on Tuesday after the city was lashed with heavy rainfall. Mumbai's famous tiffin carriers Dabbawalas also expressed their inability to operate due to unavailability of the train services.

Earlier today, amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai, a road overbridge (ROB) collapsed on rail tracks in suburban Andheri. The incident brought local services of the Western, Central and Harbour Railways to a halt and affecting some long distance trains. A total of five people were injured in the incident, the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, adding that two of them were seriously hurt.

In another mishap on Tuesday, a  fire broke out in an under construction ticket window at Mira Road railway station following the collapse of the bridge Andheri railway station on Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported. The incident came to light when commuters noticed fire and raised an alarm.
