Fire at Lok Kalyan Marg, PMO Says Narendra Modi's Residential Area Not Affected by Blaze

The 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, formerly known as the 7 Race Course Road, has housed the official residence of Prime Minister of India since the Independence. All Indian PMs have stayed at the house designated at the said location. The Centre, however, is reportedly drawing a roadmap to rejig the location of PM's residence and workplace.

New Delhi, December 30: A minor fire was reported at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the official residence and workplace of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nine fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse off the flames. The fire was brought under control by the time preliminary reports emerged, with no casualties being reported. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to social media to clarify that the residence of Modi was not affected by the blaze.

"There was a minor fire at 9, Lok Kalyan Marg caused by a short circuit. This was not in PM’s residential or office area but in the SPG reception area of the LKM complex. Officials, while speaking to news agency ANI, said the fire broke out at 7:25 pm in the evening. They have confirmed it to be a "minor fire". It was not specified whether any personnel of the housekeeping department and security staff was affected by the blaze.

The 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, formerly known as the 7 Race Course Road, has housed the official residence of Prime Minister of India since 1984. Late Rajiv Gandhi became the first PM to stay at the house designated at the said location. The Centre is now reportedly drawing a roadmap to rejig the location of PM's residence and workplace.
