Mumbai, July 16: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has come up with a landmark judgement over the delay in filing a First Information Report (FIR) by the Bhoiwada Police Station, Mumbai. The commission observed that the police failed to file an FIR even after the victim repeatedly visited the police station, but its only after two-months that they lodged a complaint. Up till then, the cops did not take the grievance of the complainant seriously, following which, the victim moved Human Rights Commission for justice. They have now ruled in her favour and directed the home department to pay a sum of rupees Rs 25, 000 as compensation.

As per a news report in DNA, the victim's daughter was going for a birthday party when someone poured hot oil on her. Following the incident, the victim suffered from severe burn injuries. The mother of the victim went to police station to file an FIR, but the police instead of helping her, turned down her plea.

The MSHRC, while hearing the plea, concluded that there was a delay in registering the FIR against the culprit for a reason best known by the concerned officer. According to a quote released by the commission, they also stated that the police woke from their slumber after two months and registered an FIR, and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Furthermore, considering the violation, the MSHRC has directed the home department to pay a compensation of Rs 25, 000 to the victim's family within four weeks from the date of the order issued.
