'Fastest Growing Airports in Southeast Asia': 6 Indian Airports in List; Delhi, Bengaluru & Mumbai at Top
Releasing the air-travel figures on Wednesday, ACI said India has clocked the the maximum growth in aviation sector across the region, with over 14 per cent gain in passenger traffic from last year.
New Delhi, December 5: The Airports Council International Asia-Pacific (ACI) has released its report for 2018, listing the cities where air travel has maximised vis-a-vis the previous year. Six Indian airports have made it to the list of top 10, with Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai being ranked as the first, second and third respectively.
Releasing the air-travel figures on Wednesday, ACI said India has clocked the the maximum growth in aviation sector across the region, with over 14 per cent gain in passenger traffic from last year. Factors which contributed to the robust growth include strong domestic demands and new airports emerging in different parts of the nation. "Passenger traffic across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East recorded growth in September at 3.4% and 1.6% respectively. India led Asia-Pacific with over 14% gain in passenger traffic from last year," said the statement issued by ACI.
The Council also highlights the sluggish growth in aviation sectors of China, which recorded a hike of only 4 per cent. Adverse weather conditions and earthquakes led to a sharp decline in air-traffic in Osaka Kansai (KIX), which recorded a negative growth of -47.8 per cent, and Sapporo New Chitose (CTS) -21.6 per cent.
India, the growth has primarily been driven from the three airports of Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai, with the three cities recording a year-on-year growth of 10.7 per cent, 25.8 per cent and 8.15 per cent.
