Farmers’ Protest in Delhi: UP Farmers Begin March From Noida to Delhi’s Kisan Ghat, Heavy Security Deployed

New Delhi, September 21: Over 500 protesting farmers from Uttar Pradesh have begun their march from Noida Sector-69 to Delhi's Kisan Ghat on Saturday. The farmers, who are protesting under the banner of Bharat Kisan Union (BKU), are protesting over their demands of payment of sugarcane crop dues, full loan waiver and making electricity used in farming free among others. The farmers had launched the protest on September 17 from Saharanpur in western Uttar Pradesh. Scores of farmers joined the protest in Noida and Ghaziabad on Friday and will now march towards Kisan Ghat in the national capital. A large group of farmers from parts of western Uttar Pradesh gathered in Noida with an aim is to draw attention of the Uttar Pradesh government towards the money owed by them through sugarcane sales and rising electricity rates.

On Friday, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare met the agitating farmers, but the talks did not yield any results. Following this, the farmers restarted their march from Noida at 7 am and are bound to reach Kisan Ghat in Delhi at around 9 am on Saturday. "After negotiations between Agriculture Ministry officials and farmers failed, we are left with the only option now that is to march to Delhi to draw attention towards our demand. We will leave from here tomorrow morning, on our tractors," said Puran Singh, National President, Indian Farmers Organization.
The farmers have blamed the BJP governments at the Centre and the State responsible for the poor state of the agriculture sector. They said that they are left with no option but to protest for their demands. The farmers, under the aegis of the BKS, had made 16 demands which include complete loan waiver, immediate payment of sugarcane crop dues among other demands. They have decided to conduct a hunger strike if their demands are not accepted after conducting a march to the national capital.
