Hyderabad, August 28: In a significant move towards ensuring the integrity of electoral rolls, Telangana has successfully eliminated over half a million duplicate voters, with a majority originating from constituencies in and around Greater Hyderabad. The constituencies of Quthbullapur, Serilingampally, and LB Nagar emerged as the areas with the highest count of weeded-out duplicate votes. The comprehensive exercise led to identifying and removing around 10 lakh duplicate electors across the state.
According to the Times of India report, out of the total count, a staggering 50,000 duplicate voters were flagged in the Quthbullapur constituency alone. Notably, the regions with the most instances of duplicate voting were Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Karimnagar, and Nizamabad Urban, according to a report by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Telangana's Chief Electoral Officer, Vikas Raj, underlined the three primary criteria for deleting entries from the electoral roll. These encompassed multiple entries that either demonstrated demographic similarities or were generated by the system, as well as cases reported by individuals, officials, or political parties. Instances of shifted electors who sought relocation or change of address via Form-8 were also considered for removal as part of the process.
