Navi Mumbai, August 17: A Navi Mumbai-based woman was duped by a man who posed as Bollywood actor Salman Khan on social networking site Facebook. A case of cheating has been registered against the accused imposter and his aide with the Kopar Khairane police. The victim is a 50-year-old woman from Ghansoli. The woman wanted to launch her 12-year-old daughter as a child artist in Bollywood.
According to the complainant, she came in contact with a person, whose Facebook profile had the name of Bollywood actor Salman Khan on August 3. She sent him her daughter's Tiktok video along with the child's profile so that she could get a chance in Bollywood. The purported manager, who identified himself as Amar Bhatola, asked the woman to pay some amount to get a passport for her daughter. Between August 7 and August 12, the woman transferred Rs 38,000 to Bhatola's bank account, TOI reported. On August 12, the so-called manager again asked for Rs 16,000. A day later, he told the woman that her daughter's card and passport had been cancelled as she failed to pay Rs 16,000. The purported manager then sought her bank account details to refund the money. However, he didn't return the money and switched off his mobile phone. The woman then lodged a formal complaint. The cybercrime unit of the Navi Mumbai police is looking into the case. Cops suspect the man who posed as Salman Khan and the manager could be the same person.
