Udaipur, May 21: Bhawna Sharma, a serial rape accuser who had filed approximately 14 fake rape cases against 14 men, was arrested in Rajasthan's Jaipur on Sunday, May 19. The Sadar police station in Jaipur apprehended a woman on Sunday for her alleged involvement in a blackmailing racket. Bhawna Sharma is said to have targeted approximately 14 men, threatening to file false rape charges against them unless they met her financial demands.
According to the Times of India report, The police have disclosed that since 2016, Sharma has filed numerous First Information Reports (FIRs) alleging rape in various cities including Jaipur, Gurugram, and Madhya Pradesh. However, most of these cases have been closed due to lack of evidence, with one accused being acquitted by the court. Serial Rape Accuser Bhawna Sharma Arrested
The recent arrest was precipitated by a complaint filed by Nitin Meena, a lawyer practising at the sessions court in Jaipur. Meena, who had initially met Sharma under professional pretences, became entangled in her web of deceit when she began demanding money from him, starting with a request for Rs 7,000. Upon learning of her history of lodging false rape cases, Meena attempted to distance himself, only to be met with threats of a rape accusation if he did not comply with her continued demands for money.
Fed Up With Blackmailing, One Victim Filed Counter-FIR Against Bhawna Sharma
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Amit Budania, confirmed that Sharma had coerced Meena into paying her Rs 5,000 every Saturday, and had indeed filed a rape case against him. Fed up with the extortion, Meena lodged a counter-FIR against Sharma for blackmail. The investigation has revealed that Sharma has lodged 12 FIRs against different men since 2016. The police are conducting a thorough investigation and plan to interrogate Sharma soon.
