Kolkata, October 4: The Kolkata police has asked the people of the city not to panic as a fake video of a bridge collapse is doing rounds on social media. The incident was recorded after sand started falling from the flyover at the crossing of AJC Bose Road and Rawdon Street. The police have clarified that the men employed for cleaning the AJC Road Flyover had swept the road and pushed the dust through the drain pipe on the Flyover and this was recorded.
Earlier in the day, people noticed that the sand was falling from the flyover. Some people shot the video and put it on social media which created panic. The police in its tweet said, “At the crossing of AJC Bose Road – Rawdon Street some people had noticed that sand was falling from the Flyover and this was creating panic. On September 24, an under-construction bridge in Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas district collapsed. Fortunately, no one got injured in the collapse. It was the third incident of the bridge collapse in the state in that month. In a tragic incident, 50-year-old Majerhat Bridge collapsed on September 4 in Kolkata claiming three lives. As per reports, the Eastern Railways had alerted the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) about the weakening structure of the bridge, but no action was taken. On September 7 also, a bridge collapsed in Siliguri. A truck driver was injured in the collapse.
