Mumbai, July 5: Two sisters who were thieves started stripping when the police came to catch them. The incident took place on Monday, July 2, in Malad's Diamond Market area, creating a high-end drama. The two even started accusing the police of molesting them, adding more to the dramatic scene. Finally, women cops had to be called in at the spot, who took away the siblings creating a nuisance.

The two accused named Sarita and Sujata Sakat, are aged between 30 and 35. The two have been suspected of breaking into several Mumbai households. They were already on the lookout for after having captured them in CCTV footage. The two, about a week ago looted jewellery from an apartment in Borivali. And a similar incident was reported in Malad.

A cop who was on his way to recovering the footage from Malad, realised they are the same pair in the Diamond market area. The cop then alerted his colleagues about it and went to confront the sisters. But the two were not so easy to deal with and started stripping instead. In order to evade the arrest, they created a scene and accused the police of molesting them. An officer was quoted in a newspaper daily, "One of the women started shouting that he was trying to molest them. She tore off her blouse and undergarment. This went on for a while, until the cops called for help. A team of women cops was immediately sent from Dindoshi police station, and the thieves were apprehended." The sisters have looted homes in Juhu, Santacruz, Vanrai, Khar to Ghatkopar. They are arrested under Section 380 of the IPC, and have been remanded to four days in police custody.

This is, however, not the first time stripping has been used as a measure to evade arrest. There have been several reports of women using the 'stripping' as a way to escape police custody. Similar incidents have taken place in Kenya and US wherein women have torn off their clothes to divert attention and plan their escape.
