Jaipur, June 12: In a jaw-dropping revelation, a US woman found herself embroiled in a stunning jewellery scam, allegedly orchestrated by a father-son duo in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The US citizen identified as Cherish was purportedly lured into purchasing artificial jewellery valued at a mere Rs 300, only to be charged an exorbitant Rs 6 crore by the jewellers. Cherish only discovered the authenticity of the jewellery after returning to the US. A case has been registered in connection with the case, and a search is underway for the absconding duo.
According to a report by India Today, Cherish began dealings with Gaurav Soni through Instagram two years ago in 2022, after which she visited the country briefly. During her visit, Cherish made a hefty purchase from Soni's shop, which is situated in the heart of Jaipur's bustling Gopalji Ka Rasta. Little did she know that the jewellery, accompanied by a hallmark certificate attesting to its purity, would turn out to be nothing short of counterfeit. On returning to the US, Cherish put her treasured jewellery on exhibition. It was after that, that she discovered the ornaments were counterfeit. Faced with this discovery, Cherish promptly flew back to India and confronted the shop owner, Gaurav Soni, who purportedly dismissed her allegations, a reported by NDTV. Following this, Cherish ran multiple tests that confirmed the artificial nature of the jewellery, revealing that the diamonds adorning her jewellery were mere moonstones, while the gold content fell far short of the promised 14 carats, amounting to a mere two carats. As the shocking truth unfolded, an FIR has been filed against the alleged swindlers under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. With both Gaurav Soni and his father, Rajendra Soni, currently evading authorities, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused. Special teams have been mobilised to trace the whereabouts of the duo, as investigations into the fraudulent scheme continue.
