Bhopal, May 8: The crime branch arrested an engineering graduate and an MBA degree holder on Tuesday for allegedly printing and circulating counterfeit currency in the city market in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal. The police seized a colour printer, high-quality plain paper, and other tools for printing fake currency.
Additional DCP (Crime), Shailendra Singh Chouhan, informed the press that the crime branch had received a tip-off about two suspicious men at a vegetable market located at 80 feet road in Ashoka Garden. The Times of India reported that the individuals were reportedly in possession of counterfeit Rs 100 notes. The whistleblower suggested that a significant counterfeit currency racket could be exposed if the suspects were apprehended promptly. A police team responded swiftly, arresting the two suspects, Vikas Sahu (24), an engineering graduate, and Vishal Sahu (34), an MBA degree holder. Upon frisking, officials recovered 36 counterfeit Rs 100 notes from their possession.
The accused admitted to printing counterfeit currency at their hideout in the Chhola area of the city. They were subsequently booked under Sections 489(A) and 489 (B) of the IPC. The duo confessed to using the counterfeit notes to purchase goods at various city markets. In another incident, a 35-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh, Bhupendra Singh Dhakat, learned printing skills while in jail and later used them to produce fake currency notes, authorities revealed. Dhakat was apprehended by the police after they found 95 counterfeit notes of Rs 200 each at his residence in Sironj. Along with the fake notes, a colour printer, ink bottles, and paper used for making the counterfeit currency were also seized. Dhakat admitted to circulating the fake money in the district for several months.
