Engineer's Day 2019: PM Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh Greet Engineers, Remember Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on His Birth Anniversary

Every year India celebrates Engineer’s Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the engineering pioneer of India Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. On the occasion of Engineer’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on Sunday.

New Delhi, September 15: Every year India celebrates Engineer’s Day on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the engineering pioneer of India Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. On the occasion of Engineer’s Day 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on Sunday. PM Modi called engineers as synonyms of diligence and determination. PM Modi in his tweet, said, “Engineers are synonymous with diligence and determination. Human progress would be incomplete without their innovative zeal. Greetings on #EngineersDay and best wishes to all hardworking engineers. Tributes to the exemplary engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya on his birth anniversary.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute to the engineering pioneer of India. Singh said that engineers of the country are truly the embodiment of the spirit of “Building a New India”.

Visweswarayya was born on September 15, 1861, in Muddenahalli village of Karnataka. He was an Indian civil engineer and statesman and was the 19th Diwan of Mysore. He received India's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955. In 1881, Visweswarayya received a BA degree from Central College in Bengaluru. He then enrolled at College of Engineering, Pune and received Licentiate in Civil Engineering. Visvesvaraya invented the block system, automated doors that close the water overflows and designed and patented the floodgates.
