Elphinstone Road Station Renamed as Prabhadevi, Change to be Effective From July 18 Midnight

Mumbai, July 17: The Elphinstone Road Station on western line of the local railway grid in Mumbai has been officially renamed as Prabhadevi. The change will be effective from midnight of July 18.

The notification to rename the station was issued last year on July 5. As per the Western Railway statement issued today, the proposal got approved today, over a year after the notification in this regard was issued.

Elphinstone Road Station is the second major stop on the local railway to be renamed. Earlier, on July 1, 2017, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Notably, the station was known as Victoria Terminus till 1996.

Elphinstone Road Station made headlines last year after the stampede which broke out on August 29, 2017, claiming 23 lives and injuring over 50 commuters.

Following the stampede, the government roped in the Army to built a new foot-over-bridge which could provide more space to the passengers changing routes.
