Puri, August 14: Amid rising incidents of man-animal conflicts, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Odisha’s Khurdha district on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Ranjana Pradhan (35), the village head’s wife, a Punjiam village resident under Banapur police limits.

According to media reports, the woman departed from her residence with the intention of reaching a nearby canal for nature's call early on Monday morning. During this time, she encountered a wild elephant. The elephant had entered the village in search of food, and unfortunately, Anjana was injured severely due to being trampled by the animal. After learning about the incident, villagers chased the elephant away and rushed Anjana to the Banapur Community Health Center, where the doctors declared her dead. The police reached the village after being informed. In another incident, a man who went to graze his cattle in the forest was reportedly killed in a wild elephant attack on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Cheriya Soman (63), a native of Kattikkulam in Kerala's Wayanad. The reports said the deceased went into the forest along with his relatives. However, he lost his path, got isolated later, and was attacked by the jumbo. He sustained severe injuries in the elephant attack and died on the spot.
