New Delhi, August 5: Ahead of the Eid al-Adha which falls on August 12, 2019, the General Secretary of the United Shia Movement has appealed to Muslims to abstain from sacrificing ritual in India on the day of Eid, on the grounds that Eid al-Adha and last Somvar (Monday) of holy month of Saawan falls on the same day. KH Naqvi, General Secretary of United Shia Movement added that it is his appeal that Muslims only do namaz on Monday, August 12. He said that the sacrifice can be done on the next day of Saawan Somvar, considering that both the days fall on the same date this year.

Eid al-Adha, also referred to as Eid ul Zuha or Bakra Eid, will be celebrated across the world in the second week of August. In Muslim-dominated nations, this is considered as the "big Eid" and is accompanied by a span of holidays announced by both public and private sector. In India, since Bakra Eid is observed on 10th date of Dhul Hijjah, this year it will be observed on August 12.
