Srinagar, August 12: Amid partial restrictions in the newly formed Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, people from the Muslim community on Monday offered their prayers on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha. Not only in Srinagar, but in other parts of newly carved out UT, people offered Namaz in various mosques.

Since morning visuals emerged from Srinagar, Udhampur, Jammu, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore, among other places. People could be seen offering prayers (namaz) at various mosques. Meanwhile, Rajouri Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas informed that they have eased restrictions so people could celebrate the festival. He said, "It is our responsibility to facilitate people on every festival, in last 2 days we eased restrictions so people could celebrate, there are no restrictions, today."

Other than this, J&K Principal Secretary (Planning Commission) Rohit Kansal stated that the over 5000 devotees offered prayers at the Eidgah in Jammu. He said, "We've reports of the successful conclusion of Eid prayers from the Kashmir valley in Baramulla, Ramban, Anantnag, Shopian, Awantipora, Srinagar & other places."

Adding more, he said, "Over 2.5 lakh sacrificial animals were arranged by the administration, mandis were set up in 8 places,treasuries&banks were kept open, over Rs 500 crore was released in 2-3 days, including wages of employees & others. Restrictions were eased on Sunday, we saw traffic at many places."

It is to be known that on August 5, Modi government abrogated the special provisions awarded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and segregated the state into two different Union territories - 1) Jammu and Kashmir and 2) Ladakh.
