Eid Al-Adah 2019 Celebrations: Captain Amarinder Singh Hosts Lunch For Kashmir Students Studying in Punjab And Chandigarh
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday hosted a lunch for Kashmiri students studying in various universities of Punjab and Chandigarh on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha. The Punjab CM also interacted with Kashmiri students. He assured that the Punjab government would provide safety and security to the Kashmiri students.
Chandigarh, August 12: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday hosted a lunch for Kashmiri students studying in various universities of Punjab and Chandigarh on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha. A majority of Kashmir students were unable to contact their family members as internet and phone connection were snapped after the Narendra Modi government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The Punjab CM also interacted with Kashmiri students. He assured that the Punjab government would provide safety and security to the Kashmiri students. He tweeted, "Hosted students from Jammu & Kashmir for lunch to celebrate #EidAlAdha in Chandigarh today. I have assured all these students of their safety here. Punjab has always stood by our brothers & sisters, and our doors & hearts will always remain open for all." The students also presented Capt Singh with his portrait which was sketched by Abdul Azad, a Fine Arts student of Chandigarh University from Kashmir. The CM distributed sweets to the students. Cabinet ministers Brahm Mohindra and Balbir Singh Sidhu were also present at the event. According to the Central government, the Eid celebrations the Kashmir Valley were peacefull barring minor incidents. In a statement, the Home Ministry said large prayer congregations were seen at many places of the Valley.
Jammu and Kashmir was under lockdown since August 5 after the Modi government diluted Article 370 scrapping special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The state was also divided into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
