EC to Investigate its Official For Violating MCC During Lok Sabha Elections in Pune
The EC has decided to investigate one of its own officials in a case of violation of the MCC during Tuesday’s polling of Lok Sabha in Pune.
Pune, April 24: With Lok Sabha Elections 2019 in full swing and reports of violation of Model Code of Conduct coming to the fore from various places of teh country, the Election Commission has now made it clear that it would act tough all the violators. In the latest, the EC has decided to investigate one of its own officials in a case of violation of the MCC during Tuesday’s polling in Pune.
According to the report, published in the Hindustan Times, the EC has found an official allegedly appealing to voters standing in the queue to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party nominee Girish Bapat in Kasba assembly segment. Briefing more, Pune district collector Naval Kishore Ram said, as reported by the daily, "As soon as we came to know about the incident, I immediately spoke to the assistant returning officer and have asked him to conduct an inquiry. Post a detailed inquiry, the administration will decide if any action has to be taken." Arm added that there were technical glitches in the VVPAT and EVM. However, only one case of EVM malfunctioning was reported.
Speaking about the low voter turnout in Pune despite efforts from EC, Ram said, “Considering the efforts we took to create awareness, I had expected a high voter turnout. Pune and Baramati are two large parliamentary constituencies. It's not easy to conduct elections here. However, I feel content that the voting took place in a hassle-free manner."
