Earthquake Tremors Felt in Assam, Bihar, West Bengal & Bangladesh; 5.5 Magnitude Intensity Recorded

Kolkata, Sept 12: A mild earthquake was reported in parts of India's northeast and eastern states, along with the neighbouring nation - Bangladesh. The region in India where the tremors were felt include Assam, Bihar, West Bengal and Bangladesh.

Residents in Kolkata, the Bengal capital, said quake lasted for 25-30 seconds. The intensity of tremors was mild, they claimed. No injuries or damage to properties is suspected in the state.

According to EMSC-CSEM, the tremors measured 5.5 magnitude on the richter scale and emanated from from 120-km west of Guwahati in Assam.

The earthquake tremors were also reported by residents in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, and the neighbouring Sylhet.

Earlier in the day, a low-intensity earthquake was felt in parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana in the wee hours of the day. The magnitude of the quake was reported to be 4.6 on the richter scale.

On Sunday, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake had struck parts of Haryana. The impact was also felt in the neighbouring Delhi-NCR.
