Earthquake Shakes Palghar, Tremors Felt For Second Time in Eight Days
There were no reports of damages following the earthquake that was of low intensity, according to authorities.
Mumbai, December 2: An earthquake measuring 3.1 magnitudes on the Richter scale shook Palghar district of Maharashtra for a brief period early on Sunday. This was the second incident in last eight days when residents of Palghar felt mild tremors. Residents of Palghar's neighbouring areas such as Thane, Nashik, Valsad, Silvassa and Navsari also experienced weak tremors on Sunday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 13km having its epicentre in Dahanu taluka at 1:38 am, as reported by a leading daily. On November 24, Palghar witnessed an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 at around 3:15 pm. The epicentre was Dhundalwadi village in Dahanu. On November 11, an earthquake measuring 3.2 was recorded in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of Palghar district at 6:25 pm. Jawahar, Vikramgad, Dahanu talukas of Palghar district have been prone to tremors.
