New Delhi, February 2: An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale hit the Hindukush region on Saturday. Tremors of the massive quake were felt in Delhi-NCR region and other northern states including Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, India's neighbouring nations Afghanistan and Pakistan also felt the tremors on Saturday afternoon. No casualties or damage to property has been reported. Earlier in the day, a strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the Indonesian island of Mentawai, but no tsunami warning was issued. According to USGS, the earthquake hit at a depth of 10 kilometres (six miles) in the Mentawai region.
The massive quake in the Hindukush region on Saturday comes a day after Maharashtra's Palghar district was hit by five consecutive quakes in 24 hours. According to reports, a two-year-old girl died when the consecutive earthquakes hit Maharashtra's Talsari Taluka of Palghar district. Reports inform that three major earthquakes measuring 4.1, 3.6 and 3.5 on the Richter scale hit the district on Friday at 2:06 pm, 3:53 pm and 4:57 pm respectively.
According to the National Center of Seismology (NCS), Maharashtra's Palghar region has been experiencing such tremors regularly since November last year and more than 10 earthquakes have occurred in the Talsari Taluka.
