Shimla, January 6: An earthquake of magnitude 3.6 on the Richter scale hit Himachal Pradesh on Monday. According to a tweet by ANI, the mild quake hit the Shimla region of the hill state. Reports inform that the quake struck the region  at 5.18 am on Monday and the depth was 10 km. There was no report of any casualty or damage to property so far. More details are awaited.

In Himachal Pradesh, the local Met Department has predicted widespread snowfall from Monday with chances of road closure in interiors of the state after heavy snow cover piling on roads.

In the last week, a moderate intensity earthquake had hit Jammu & Kashmir and parts of Pakistan. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) stated that magnitude of the earthquake was measured as 5.4 on the Richter scale. Reports stated that the epicentre of the earthquake is stated to be in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

Earlier in December, a low intensity tremor shook parts of Palghar district in Maharashtra. The tremor of magnitude 2.3 was recorded at 9.33 pm, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 km in Dundalwadi village.
