Earthquake in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh & Other Parts of North India, Mild Tremors Felt
The North Indian states of Delhi, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir are located close to the seismic belt of Hindu-Kush region, which is considered prone to earthquakes.
New Delhi, July 1: A mild earthquake was reported in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Haryana and other parts of North India. The tremors were of low-intensity, as per the residents in the northern states who experienced the quake. The magnitude of the quake was measured as 4.0 on the richter scale, news agency ANI reported. The tremors originated from Sonipat in Haryana at 3:37pm.
"The tremors were mild but we lasted for nearly 30-40 seconds. We felt everything across the building shaking. Most people in the premise came out within minutes after experiencing the quake," said Aditya Sharma, a media professional based in Noida.
The last instance of earthquake in India was reported on June 11, when tremors measuring 5.1 magnitude on the richter scale struck the northeastern state of Assam. The quake had then originated from Nagaon, about 114 km east of Guwahati, the capital of Assam.
