DU Students Stage Counter Protest Against CAA Protesters, Hail Delhi Police For Action in Jamia Millia University; Watch Video

Delhi University students on Wednesday staged counter-protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters. The students also hailed Delhi Police for their action against CAA protesters by raising slogans “Delhi Police Zindabad”.

New Delhi, December 18: Delhi University students on Wednesday staged counter-protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters. The students also hailed Delhi Police for their action against CAA protesters in Jamia Millia Islamia University by raising slogans “Delhi Police Zindabad”. They also raised slogans of “Vande Matram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai”. Meanwhile, tThe Jamia Teachers' Association on Wednesday took out to thank various universities that supported the Jamia students in their protest against the controversial law. The association also sought withdrawal of cases registered against students and demanded adequate compensation for the loss of property during the police action on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Police held a flag march in Mustafabad and Ghonda areas after violent protests in Seelampur area of the national capital. Section 144 was also imposed. Meanwhile, 28 people were arrested in connection with violence which erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau on Monday following protests over police action on students of Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University. The law was enacted by Parliament last week. Following the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 widespread protests erupted in Assam and other northeast states. The protests intensified after the Delhi Police on Sunday allegedly entered the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia University.
