Pune, September 16: In a tragic incident, a well-known spine surgeon based in Pune, Dr Ketan Khurjekar and the driver of his car in which he was travelling were killed after they got hit by a speeding bus. According to an Indian Express report, the incident took place on the Pune Mumbai Expressway near Talegaon on Sunday night, in which two other doctors travelling with Sr Khurjekar were injured. Reportedly, the car had stopped to fix a punctured tyre, when they were returning from Mumbai after attending a medical conference in the city. It was then that a speeding bus came from behind and hit their car. Dr Khurjekar was attached to the Sancheti Hospital in Pune as the Chief Spine Surgeon. The deceased driver has been identified as Dnyaneshwar Bhosale and the two injured doctors as Jayesh Pawar and Pramod Bhillare.
Dr Khurjekar was a renowned doctor, who performed 3,500 complicated spine surgeries and was a gold medalist in MS Ortho. He revolutionised the concepts of rehabilitation of spine surgery and played a big role in driving away fear about spine surgery from the minds of several people.
Just a few days back in Chennai, Subashree, a 23-year-old software engineer, died in a road accident after an illegal hoarding, put up by a worker of the ruling AIADMK, fell on her. In the video which captured the accident, Subashree, who worked at an IT company, is seen riding her two-wheeler on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road when the banner, which was put up by AIADMK party official C Jayagopal, knocked her down. A tanker came from behind and hit her scooter, injuring Subashree on the head.
