Dr HL Trivedi Dies: Veteran Indian Nephrologist and Padma Awardee Passes Away in Ahmedabad; PM Narendra Modi Pays Tribute

Ahmedabad, October 2: Veteran Indian nephrologist Hargovind Lakshmishanker Trivedi died on Wednesday in Ahmedabad due to age-related ailments. His demise has left a huge void in the medical realm of nephrology, said doctors on social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the deceased medical practitioner, recalling him as among the best nephrologists. Apart from being a stalwart in the medical realm, Dr HL Trivedi was a compassionate human being who felt the pain of his patients, the PM said in a post on social media.

Dr Trivedi was born on August 31, 1932 in the Indian state of Gujarat. He went on to become a recognised nephrologist in the United States, where he practised at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic for two years, followed by an eight-year stint in Hamilton, located in Canada's Ontario.

A visit to his home state of Gujarat convinced Dr HL Trivedi to return to his motherland and serve the people in the nation. He was also a faculty member of the  B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad for sometime. In 2015, the Centre awarded him with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour.
