New Delhi, July 26: The government of Thursday denied media reports of China resuming activities in Doklam. Minister of state for external affairs ministry V K Singh informed Rajya Sabha that the status quo prevailed in the area. Singh added that there had been no new developments at the site of the face-off in Doklam. An official government spokesperson called the press reports quoting US official’s remarks as incorrect.
According to a report published in The Times of India, the spokesperson also said that there were no new developments in Doklam. Both the countries withdrew their troops from Doklam Plateau on August 28, 2017. Earlier today reports surfaced in the media about China resuming its activities in Doklam quoting a top US official.
According to reports, Alice G Wells, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia said, “I would assess that India is vigorously defending its northern borders and this is a subject of concern to India.” Doklam is strategically located close to the ‘Chicken’s-Neck’ or Siliguri Corridor, which connects mainland India with its north-eastern region. Gaining control of the area would put China in an advantageous position as it can keep a close watch on the Siliguri Corridor.
