Harippad, May 31: In an incident of dog attack in Kerala, an eight-year-old boy named Devanarayanan, son of Deepu from Harippad Kottakkakam, has died from rabies. Devanarayanan passed away at around 11:45 a.m on Thursday. The boy had been receiving treatment for the past week after experiencing severe breathing problems. The boy was attacked by stray dog nearly a month ago.
The boy’s condition deteriorated yesterday morning, prompting his transfer to a private hospital in Thattarambalam and subsequently to Alappuza Medical College, reported Keralakaumudi. The incident traces back to April 23, when Devanarayanan threw a ball at a stray dog that was attempting to bite a cyclist. The dog then turned on the boy and chased him. At the time, there was speculation that the dog might have also fallen into the drain with the child. However, as there were no visible signs of a dog bite, the boy's family assumed the injuries were solely from the fall. Consequently, they did not seek rabies vaccination for him.
This assumption proved fatal, as Devanarayanan began showing symptoms of rabies last week, ultimately leading to his untimely death.
In another similar incident, Kanpur Mayor Pramila Pandey ordered the demolition of several meat and fish shops after a girl was mauled to death by stray dogs on Sunday. The Mayor stated that it was due to such shops that stray dogs became aggressive.
